A Fernando hat-trick helped Sporting Lisbon thrash Barcelona 8-1 in the quarter-finals of the Beach Soccer Club World Cup.Fernando headed Sporting ahead within seconds of the kick-off in Thursday’s match and he netted a second immediately after the restart in Sao Paolo.
Barcelona had a stroke of luck for their goal as Ramiro Amarelle’s free-kick took a fortunate bounce into the net.
Fernando then sealed a five-minute hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Boguslaw Saganowski extended Sporting’s lead before setting up Francesco Corosiniti for an easy header to make it 5-1.
Things got worse for Barcelona as Alan’s deft lob put the game out of the Spaniards’ reach.
Veteran forward Madjer powered home a long-range free-kick before Alan finished the Portuguese club’s rout with his second of the game.
Sporting Lisbon will now play Lokomotiv Moscow in the semi-finals after the Russian club’s 7-2 win over Italian outfit AC Milan.
In Thursday’s other quarter-finals, local side Flamengo progressed courtesy of a 5-4 penalty shootout victory following a 2-2 draw with US club Seattle Sounders.
They will meet Vasco de Gama in all-Brazilian semi following their 4-1 win over Corinthians.
