Jamie O’Hara’s loan spell with Wolves was confirmed yesterday while Redknapp continues to bemoan his current lack of options in the middle of the park. With Huddlestone suffering an injury setback that could see him omitted from Spurs’ 25-man squad, Palacios struggling to rediscover anything remotely resembling his best form and the jury still out over Jenas and Sandro, it seems strange that Harry would let O’Hara leave on loan.
Although still young, O’Hara is a leader on the pitch who is tenacious in the tackle, always puts in a shift and has an eye for goal. With the absence of Bale, O’Hara would also have offered a little more balance to the midfield that currently lacks the natural width of a left footer.
There are reports that Harry is now attempting to bring Scott Parker in from West Ham to boost numbers in the middle of the park. Spurs are starting to see evidence of Redknapp’s scatter-gun approach to signings that he has become famous for at other clubs. He has brought back Defoe, Crouch, Keane, Kaboul and brought in Kranjcar, Sandro, Bassong, Gallas, Pienaar, Pletikosa and Khumalo amongst others. It is starting to look like there has been as many hits as misses with Redknapp’s transfer policy at Spurs and I would be glad for him to concentrate on getting the best out of some of the players already at his disposal before he looks to replace one ‘squad player’ with another.
While I am all for Spurs improving their ‘first team’ it is entirely for times like this that Spurs have built such a large squad and they should look to utilise the squad at such times rather than loan them out and then immediately re-enter the transfer market for replacements.
After all there are surely more obvious areas of the pitch that need attention in the transfer market such as a world class striker who can play on their own up front and a consistent goalkeeper that can inspire confidence within their defence.
