So what if Arsenal haven’t won a title for eight years and who cares that they have only signed one player that didn’t even play at the Premier League opener? The Gunners are the Twitter champions as they have the highest number of followers out of any Premier League club.
According to their latest count in July, Arsenal won the Twitter League with 2,522,353 followers, with Europa League winners Chelsea in second place with 2,416,750 followers.
Liverpool and Manchester City make third and fourth place respectively, with over 1 million followers each, whereas last year’s champions Manchester United disappoint as they finish in sixth place right behind Tottenham.
The Red Devils have only managed to get 469,618 followers whereas Spurs got 528,400. So who needs Gareth Bale when you dominate Man United on Twitter?
Hull City, Crystal Palace and Cardiff City have all been promoted to this year’s Premier League however, according to the Twitter League they are all in the relegation zone. Cardiff are in 18th place with 49,119 followers, Palace follow with 46,265 and the Tigers are last with 38,449.
The Gunners, though, fall short in the Twitter Premier League Starting XI as no Arsenal player makes it there, even though former Gunners Ashley Cole and Robin Van Persie are in. Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is David De Gea’s sub and is accompanied at the Twitter bench by another former Gooner, Samir Nasri.
On the veterans front though, Arsenal count three of their former players, with Lee Dixon in defence and Patrick Vieira in midfield and Ian Wright playing up top.
The Gunners are not yet officially in this year’s Champions League but they have conquered fourth place in the Twitter Champions League following Galatasaray, Real Madrid and champions Barcelona, who count 9,431,731 followers.
Therefore, Arsene Wenger counts three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, four Community Shields, Thierry Henry and a Twitter Championship. So put that in the trophy case #wengerout fans!
