Kai Rooney, the son of Premier League legend Wayne, is continuing to make waves after being named in the squad for Manchester United Under-18s’ season opener.

Kai, who is just 15, has been named among the substitutes as the young Red Devils take on Everton in their first game of the new U18s Premier League campaign. His father Wayne represented both teams, emerging through Everton's youth system before moving to United in 2004 and going on to become the Old Trafford club's all-time record goalscorer.

Kai's promotion to the Under-18s, who are managed by former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, continues his eye-catching rise through the ranks. Comfortable playing out wide or as a striker, Kai's efforts at youth level have regularly been shared across social media in recent months.

And it was reported earlier in August that Kai, who has been on United's books since the age of 11, was also called up to the Under-19s squad for a tournament in Croatia following a series of good performances in the U16 Super Cup NI event.
