Jordan Henderson has admitted he still has a lot to learn after a ‘whirlwind’ 12 months according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, and endured a difficult debut season at Anfield, drawing criticism from many following his big money move last summer.
Henderson recognises he is a long way off the finished article, but has vowed to do all he can to improve and force his way back into Rodgers starting eleven.
Speaking whilst on international duty with the England under-21’s, he said: “It’s been a whirlwind of a 12 months, but I have really enjoyed it and learned a lot of things on the way.
“I am still learning and if I can carry on doing that then hopefully the next 12 months and beyond will be even better.”
Henderson featured for England at Euro 2012, being called up to replace the injured Frank Lampard, but finds himself back in the under-21 set up, set to captain Stuart Pearce’s side against Norway on Monday.
He continued:
“I am starting to feel a bit older with the young lads coming in but I have still got a long way to go and a lot to learn.
“I think I will just keep working hard, keep my head down and hopefully I can become a better player.”
Henderson has found his place under threat at Anfield from one of his under-21 teammates in the form of Jonjo Shelvey.
The former Charlton man has featured for Brendan Rodgers ahead of Henderson so far this season, and impressed during England under-21’s 2-0 victory over Azerbaijan last week, scoring one and creating the other.
Henderson said of his Liverpool teammate:
“Jonjo was very good. He played just off the striker and got on the ball a lot. He made some good passes and played a big part in both of the goals, setting up the first and scoring near the end.
“I thought he was brilliant. He’s been like that throughout pre-season at Liverpool, so I hope he can carry on like that.”
