Newcastle have offered Matty Longstaff a new contract and with talks ongoing Steve Bruce has shared his desire for the 19-year-old to put pen to paper.Interestingly, there is a hint that the Magpies’ boss feels a lack of confidence when it comes to finalising the deal, stressing that he hopes Longstaff makes a “footballing decision”.Some fans have interpreted that comment as an implication that the club haven’t offered him very good terms in regard to finances, and that means he could be tempted away despite his affiliation to the club since he was a kid.As a result, supporters have reacted to the comment by suggesting the club should be offering the midfielder exactly what he is worth as he has now proved that he is capable of playing in the Premier League, with 12 appearances this season.
If Longstaff fails to sign there would likely be some uproar, as he is a talented young player who has come through the academy – something Newcastle haven’t enjoyed too much recently – although Sean Longstaff is another example of a successful youth graduate.
Losing him due to financial reasons would be even more difficult to take, too, so it is little surprise that high profile figures at the club, including Bruce, Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley, are being criticised.

Some feel the club is not organised or being run sufficiently, otherwise Longstaff’s future would likely have been sorted when he first burst on the scene at the beginning of the current campaign.
